Process Management
Every retailer has processes. Managing processes involves implementing,
inspecting, fine-tuning and correcting the processes you put in place, so you
get the results you desire. YOU are PART of the process.
An excellent article on the leadership aspect of process management can be found
in the January 2006 issue of dealer-magazine.com
The Excuses Must Stop Now! by : Dave Anderson
Dealer Magazine | January 2006
...Nearly everywhere I go, I still hear the barrage of loser's limps from people
in leadership positions. They whine about an obvious conspiracy conjured up by
everyone from manufacturers to high fuel prices that keeps them from being more
successful...
...Excuses seem to be some leaders' best friends. After all, they comfort you in
your complacency. They rationalize away the need for action and they condition
you for victimhood. Amazingly, many business people have convinced themselves
that the excuses they're so quick to bond with are actually adequate
explanations for failing to execute and do what they're being paid to do: get
results in spite of obstacles.
...While you can't control what happens to you, you are still responsible for
your response. And regardless of how noble and good your intentions, you will be
measured by results. Thus, excuses are a waste of time and energy and only
succeed in deluding and distracting you from getting the job done. Excuses are
exhausting. They drain you and everyone around you. Put the same energy and
creativity into solutions as you do in affixing blame and you'd soar to the top.
...You have two choices each day: perform or make excuses. You get to choose
which path to take. Choose carefully because ultimately, your choices become
your life. Excuses are the DNA of underachievers. The world is filled with those
who embrace the ever-popular mantra, "it's not my fault." Don't fall for that
loser's limp. The bottom of the business ladder is filled with losers,
complainers and whiners who gather each day to cry about how unfair life is and
to rationalize away their lack of success. Each time you accept responsibility
for your results you climb one rung up the ladder away from those who indulge in
the self-destructive madness of excuses...
The best day of your life is when you give up excuses...
